Pioneer Jacob Gesink
Q1) How did you originally find Ten Forward (OTF)?:
search engine, as I recall, altavista. Been a while hasn't it?
Q2) What did you like about the place back then?:
People mostly, which where very friendly, and very dedicated. There where always quite a few online.
Q3) Do you still remember any of the people you met in the chat, or events held
during that first year?:
Ah yes, I enjoyed chatting with Athos a lot, who was running CCC at the time, and Crazy Texan and Evil Incarnate. There are many others, but my memories evolve around humour, and those guys have plenty of it. I wasn't very active in any community activity in the first period.
Q4) Do you still keep in contact with any of them?:
I'm not in contact anymore with any. There's people that greet me warmly if I drop by on an annual visit (which I try to do consistently, often ending up in an empty chatsite.)
Q5) Why did you stop coming to the chat?:
I stopped at the time because it was time to move on. A lot of my friends there have come and gone, and it seemed to me, after years of dedication, a natural way of moving on.
Q6) Would you consider coming back at some point, and if so, what would make you want to come back?:
I suppose I dont have the time to hang out hours in a chat site anymore. Maybe the site works on my cellphone, and could be utilised in lost moments. I wouldn't say no to a chance seeing old friends again, for sure.
Q7) What have you done since you left the chat? What are you doing these days?:
oh, where to start. I finished my cultural social studies, started to study philosophy. I made a documentary in Kyrgyzstan, became inspired to do photography. Dropped out of philosophy, found a job, made some money, and started to study art photography in The Hague, Holland. Graduating this year, what happens next is quite unknown. I did get married as well, with Tanja, a lovely girl, and journalist from Serbia.
