Yearbook Report: Guilds

"Outpost 10F's Guilds will support the membership in their creativity, will support lifelong learning, and will provide a place to showcase members' submissions."

It has definitely been an interesting two years for the Guilds - 2004-2005 as a year of transition, and 2005-2006 as a year of growth.

The end of 2004 found the Guilds shut down for restructuring. At the beginning of 2005, the department came under new leadership and reopened it's doors. Meanwhile, the team went back to the Guilds' roots in the original departmental charter for inspiration and planning. The staff lead the Outpost in a "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" weekend of events; the Library brought us book nights and new reviews; we saw the return of the Poetry Guild and it's monthly contests, always a favorite of the OTF community; and the Music Guild launched it's new Songwriter's Contest, and collaborated with ENT's Trivia team for Music Trivia. Behind the scenes, each team was busy making plans for new and returning activities and resources. A plan was also begun for a site-wide redo of the Guilds' webpages, moving to a concept that was updated and integrated. The 2005 Anniversary found the Guilds still in transition, but gaining strength.

This past year has been one of growth, even amidst technical difficulties. Like working a puzzle, many important pieces began falling into place. The Assistant Management team turned over, and a stronger Executive team was the result. The Writers' Guild found new leadership in old friends, and has been progressing in planning, structure and content, revealing several new things at this year's anniversary. The Artists' Guild received eager and energetic leadership, and quickly resumed another OTF favorite event, the monthly art competitions. In addition, they have brought us other events like the recent smiley contest and several new features on the way. The Film Guild has also come under new leadership recently, and the staff is working and planning hard to bring great things to the membership. Our new Guilds main webpages were released a few weeks ago, and we plan to introduce several of the new team pages very soon.

As we approach the 2006 anniversary, it is with both a sense of accomplishment for how far we have come, and also a desire to challenge ourselves to do more in the future. With this strong team of leaders and processes in place, this next year should see even more good things from the Guilds.

Most importantly, our department is enriched by the contributions of the OTF community. Everyone is welcome to participate in our events and activities, we are here to support and encourage you!

Respectfully submitted,

Commodore JJ
Senior Manager of the Guilds
August 2006
